Violet M. Mentz

Violet M. Mentz, 95, of 2700 Matthew John Drive, Apt. 136, formerly of Windsor Park and 2930 Kane Street, Apt. 3, died peacefully at 12:05 p.m. Thursday, March 13, at home.

Services will be at 10:30 p.m. Monday, March 17, at St. Anthony's Catholic Church, with her nephew, the Rev. Steven Stillmunks concelebrating with the Rev. Daniel Knepper. Entombment will be in Resurrection Garden Mausoleum at Mount Calvary Cemetery. Friends may call after 9:30 a.m. at the church.

She was born on Nov. 4, 1912, in Dubuque, daughter of John N. and Rose E. (Harmann) Stillmunkes.

She married William G. Mentz on Aug. 7, 1935, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Dubuque; he preceded her in death on June 11, 1995.

She was a dedicated and faithful member of St. Anthony's Church. She loved praying the rosary and entertaining and had a great sense of humor.

Surviving are a sister, Imelda Bailey, a brother-in-law, Elmer Friedman, and a sister-in-law, Ilse Stillmunkes, all of Dubuque; a sister-in-law, Mildred (Mentz) Sear, of Maquoketa, Iowa; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; six sisters, Leone Quirk, Veronica Robinson, Alvina Piersch, Evelyn Schrup, Gladys Faha and Rosemary Friedman; and four brothers, Lloyd, Arnold, Harmon and John Stillmunkes.
