Thelma M. Weidenbacher

Thelma M. Weidenbacher, 87, of 4413 Wren Drive, died Thursday, March 13, 2008, at home.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, March 17, at St. Paul Lutheran Church. Burial will be in Dubuque Memorial Gardens, south of Dubuque. Friends may call from 2 to 7 p.m. today, at Egelhof, Siegert & Casper Westview Funeral Home, 2659 Kennedy Road, and after 10 a.m. Monday, March 17, at the church.

She was born July 16, 1920, in Platteville, Wis., daughter of Harry and Mary (Ostendorf) Goke. She moved to Dubuque when she was 10 years old and graduated from Dubuque Senior High.

She married Donald Weidenbacher on July 16, 1941; he preceded her in death in November 1990.

After her retirement from Dan Kruse, Thelma and her husband wintered in Florida and spent their summers at Freddy's Beach.

She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church and its Golden Age Club, Brown Bag Bible Study and the Ruth Circle. Thelma also was a member of the Widow to Widowers organization.

She was a great hostess who loved to entertain. Whether you were young or old, she always made you feel welcomed. Thelma enjoyed a good game of cribbage and playing cards, especially bridge and euchre. She was a wonderful woman who will be sadly missed, especially by her niece, Rose Leifker, whom Thelma raised from childhood; and her "granddaughter," Sarah Leifker.

Surviving are nieces and nephews; and three sisters-in-law, Tabitha Weidenbacher, of Sioux Falls, S.D., and Leta "Pat" Weidenbacher and Carol (William) LuGrain, both of Dubuque.

She also was preceded in death by her six sisters; and three brothers.
