Florence M. Hird

Florence M. Hird, 91, of 1110 Wooten St., died Monday, March 10, 2008, at ManorCare Health Services.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 12, at First Congregational United Church of Christ. Burial will be in Center Grove Cemetery. Friends may call after 1 p.m. at the church. Siegert-Casper Colonial Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

She was born Dec. 30, 1916, in Dubuque, daughter of Arthur and Florence (Walters) Hird.

She graduated from Dubuque Senior High School. She spent her life as a caregiver to many people, beginning with her own siblings when their mother passed away at an early age. Florence was a member of First Congregational United Church of Christ where she was the last surviving charter member of COYOPLE.

Surviving are a sister, Genevieve Jacobsen, of Marinette, Wis.; two sisters-in-law, Elaine Hird Adams, of Dubuque, and Faye Hird, of Gooding, Idaho; a nephew, Mark (Chris) Hird, of Rosselle Ill.; three nieces, Linda (Don) Campbell, of Arlington Heights, Ill., Jane (Bill) English, of Bernard, Iowa, and Becky (Jerry) Beck, of Menominee, Mich., and several great nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by three brothers, Raymond, Eugene and Earl Hird.

The family would like to thank the nurses and staff at Manor Care for their loving care. The family also extends a heartfelt thank-you to John Ervolino and his family.
