Dennis J. Kirkpatrick

Dennis James Kirkpatrick, 45, of 3170 Hillcrest Road, Apt. 3, died at 7:15 p.m. Saturday, March 8, 2008, at Mercy Medical Center-Dubuque, surrounded by his family and friends.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, March 12, at Grand View United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Linwood Cemetery. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. today at Egelhof, Siegert and Casper Westview Funeral Home, 2659 Kennedy Road, and after 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, March 12, at the church.

He was born in Dubuque, on Dec. 23, 1962, son of Charles and Maxine (Heitz) Kirkpatrick. He graduated from Dubuque Senior High School.

Dennis dedicated his life to helping those with special needs. He was employed for many years at Sunnycrest Manor.

He was most recently employed by Area Residential Care for nearly 13 years, as a residential community lead, forever changing the lives of many young men and woman.

He was always known for focusing on everyone's strengths, and never their weaknesses.

His big smile, zest for life and his ability to make everyone laugh will be greatly missed by all who knew him. His example of dedication to family and friends and his unconditional love were his biggest qualities.

Surviving are his father, Charles, of Dubuque; and twelve siblings, Alesia (Scott) Thomas, of Cascade, Nancy (Mike) Cahill, of Farley, Jeff Kirkpatrick, of Hastings, Neb., Bruce (Sally) Kirkpatrick, of Mich., Thomas Kirkpatrick, of Dubuque, Sherry Flaherty, of Rockford, Ill., William Hoffman, of Rock Island, Colleen Kirkpatrick, of Dubuque, Lucinda Frandzen, of Sherrill, Iowa, Candy (Mark) Blakeman, of Beloit, Wis., Verne Kirkpatrick, of Fort Atkinson, Wis., and Jennifer Bolsinger, of Dubuque; many nieces and nephews; and his best friend, Chad.

He was preceded in death by his mother; siblings, Mike and Mary; a niece, Faith Kirkpatrick; and a nephew, Alex Gibson.

The family wishes to thank the entire staff at Mercy Hospital for their kindness shown to Dennis and the family, especially all the ICU nurses. Thank you to Dr. Cihak, Dr. Caceres, Dr. Janes for your all of your knowledge and dedication. A big thank-you to all of Dennis' friends for the outpouring support during this difficult time. It was greatly appreciated.
