Harold P. Hoffman

Harold P. Hoffman, 83, of ManorCare Health Services, formerly of 827 Lincoln Ave., died Friday evening, April 25, 2008, at ManorCare.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, April 29, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. today at Hoffmann-Schneider Funeral Home, 1640 Main St., where there will be a wake service at 7:30 p.m.

He was born on Nov. 10, 1924, in Worthington, Iowa, son of Raymond P. and Clara (Jaeger) Hoffman. He married Ruth H. Budde on June 16, 1947, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Bellevue, Iowa; she preceded him in death on July 23, 2001.

Harold served in the Army, stationed in the Philippines during World War II.

He was employed at Caradco for 19 years, then at John Deere Dubuque Works for 26 years. He also worked with the WPA on the construction of the overlook wall at Eagle Point Park.

He was a member of the American Legion Dubuque Post 6, Knights of Columbus council 510, United Auto Workers Local 94 and Sacred Heart Parish where he served as an usher.

Surviving are four sons, Ron (Beth) Hoffman, of Asbury, Iowa, Dave (Maggie) Hoffman and Marty (Karen) Hoffman, both of Dubuque, and Tim (Jeda) Hoffman, of Andrew, Iowa; two daughters, Sharon (Dick) Feller and Patti (Bill) Dix, both of Dubuque; 16 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchilchildren; two sisters, Luella (Loras) Bellmann, of Key West, Iowa, and Charlene (Randy) Hammerand, of Dubuque; and a sister-in-law, Donna Hoffman, of Bellevue, Iowa.

He also was preceded in death by his parents; a grandson, Ronald John Hoffman II; a brother, Gerald "Harry" Hoffman; and a sister, Helen Hoffman, in infancy.

A Harold P. Hoffman Memorial Fund has been established.
