Sammie L. Dement

Sammie L. Dement, 65, 2411 Martin Drive, died at 9:30 p.m. Monday, March 3, 2008, peacefully at home.

Private family services will be at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, March 6, at Behr Funeral Home, 1491 Main St. Burial will be in Foraker Cemetery, Foraker, Okla.

She was born on Sept. 29, 1942, in Ponca City, Okla., daughter of Everett "Pete" and Dorothy "Ruth" (Morton) Weaver. She married Glenn A. Dement on Aug. 30, 1986, in Dubuque.

She was a graduate of Dubuque Senior High School.

Sammie formerly bred Pekinese dogs and owned a dog grooming salon in Florida. She also worked at various grooming salons in Dubuque.

She was very talented and enjoyed working with stained glass, ceramics and porcelain dolls. She could sew, crochet, knit and do many crafts. She also liked to read and watch sports.

Sammie had a great sense of humor and will be missed by her family and friends.

Surviving are her husband, Glenn A. Dement; her mother, Dorothy "Ruth" Weaver, of Dubuque; two daughters, Jennifer S. (Craig) Norton, of Dubuque, and April L. Gomillion, of Mobile, Ala.; two step-sons, Dennis M. (Dee) Dement, of Strawberry Point, Iowa, and Kevin P. (Joni) Dement, of Kieler, Wis.; five step-grandchildren; two brothers, Jerry (Colleen) Weaver, of Dubuque, and Thomas Weaver, of Farley, Iowa; and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her father, Everett Weaver.

The family would like to thank Dr. Hermann and his staff and the nurses and staff of Hospice of Dubuque for their loving care and concern for Sammie and the family.
