John William "Doc" Hopkins, 78, of 1941 Madison St., died Saturday, March 1, 2008, at Mercy Medical Center-Dubuque.
Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 9, followed by a celebration of his life at P J's Tavern on Rhomberg. Burial will be in Rock Island National Veterans Cemetery, Rock Island, Ill. The Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory, 2595 Rockdale Road, is in charge of the arrangements.
He was born on July 29, 1929, in Fayette, Pa. He served in the Air Force during the Korean War.
Doc loved life and always greeted everyone with a smile. He had a great talent for remembering names, and was an excellent pool player. When you greeted Doc with a "How are you today" his response would be "I woke up today." May he rest in peace.
He is survived by his many friends.
