Phyllis E. Markward, 88, of Bethany Home, formerly of 21 Lindberg Terrace, died Sunday March 2, 2008, at Bethany Home.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 5, at the Third Presbyterian Church, where friends may call from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, March 5. Burial will be in Dubuque Memorial Gardens, south of Dubuque. The Egelhof-Siegert & Casper Westview Funeral Home, 2659 Kennedy Road, is in charge of arrangements.
She was born on July 16, 1919, in Dubuque, daughter of Walter and Matilda (Grimme) Hartley. She married Edward J. Markward on May 1, 1945, in Babylon, New York; he preceded her in death on Sept. 15, 1995.
Phyllis was employed at the Dubuque Credit Union and also with Alden Catalog.
She was a member of Third Presbyterian Church and also a volunteer for the American Cancer Society. Phyllis was very supportive of her local Parent Teacher Association and booster clubs.
Surviving are her three sons, Edward (Diana) Markward, of Providence, R.I., Randy (Marti) Markward, of Washington, Utah, and David (Linda) Markward, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; nine grandchildren, Anthony, Natalie, Abigail, Nathan, Lucas, Heather, Joshua, Lindsey and Brooke; a great-grandchild, Carter; and a sister, Betty Hauth, of Maquoketa, Iowa.
She also was preceded in death by three brothers, George, Lester and Sumner Hartley; and two sisters, Gladys Frohs and Gertrude Meis
The Markward family would like to thank the nurses and staff at the Bethany Home and also Hospice of Dubuque for their loving care and support.
