Wayne C. Kratz

Wayne C. Kratz, 73, of 9228 Olde Davenport Road, died Monday evening Feb. 25, 2008, after a short time at Stonehill Care Center.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Feb. 29, at Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory, 2595 Rockdale Road, where friends may call from noon to 2 p.m. Friday, Feb. 29. Burial will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Key West, Iowa.

Mr. Kratz worked at the former Dubuque Packing Company for more than 28 years.

He was born on Jan. 16, 1935, in Dubuque, son of Raymond and Marie (Gerstkamp) Kratz. He attended Holy Trinity Grade School and Dubuque High School.

He married Marilyn Koppes on Feb. 4, 1956 in Bellevue, and had three children, Rick, Curt and Jennifer.

Surviving are his wife, Marilyn Kratz; his son, Rick Kratz and his wife, Donna, of Glendale, Ariz.; his daughter, Jennifer Walker and her husband, Richard, of Dubuque; four grandchildren, Rachele and Aaron Kratz, of Glendale, and Ricky and Claire Walker, of Dubuque; a brother, Raymond Kratz Jr., of Scottsdale, Ariz.; a sister, Jeannine Petsche and her husband, Harlan, of Epworth, Iowa; three brothers-in-law and their wives, Dorrence and Mary Lou Koppes, of Peoria, Ariz., Russell and Ruby Koppes, of Hamilton, Mont., Ronald and Elizabeth Koppes, of Bellevue; a brother-in-law, Eugene Ernst, of Bellevue; five sisters-in-law, Joan Dickerson, of Sun City, Ariz., Joyce Mahnke and her husband, Richard, of Peosta, Iowa, Vera Patterson, of Phoenix, and Carol Heying and her husband, Carl, and Bonnie Kratz, all of Dubuque; and dozens of nieces and nephews, who were special to Wayne.

He was preceded in death my his son, Curt Kratz; his parents, Ray and Marie Kratz; three brothers, Donald, Lyle and Allen Kratz; his sister-in-law, Harriet Kratz; his father and mother-in-law, Clarence and Florence Koppes; sister-in-law, Dee Ernst; brother-in-law, Carl Dickerson; and a brother and sister-in-law, John and Sue Koppes.

Wayne's family would like to thank all for their family and friends, Wayne's physicians and staff, Hospice of Dubuque, and the care team at Stonehill for their kindness, thoughtfulness and good sense of humor.
