Lavern F. Link

Lavern F. Link, 85, of 9278 Military Road, died at 3 p.m. Monday, Feb. 25, 2008, at Mercy Medical Center-Dubuque.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Feb. 29, at St. Joseph's Church, Key West, Iowa, with the Rev. Donald Bakewell officiating. Burial will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Key West, where where there will be a flag presentation by the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9663 and American Legion Post 6. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. today, at Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory, 2595 Rockdale Road, where there will be a wake service at 3 p.m.

He was born on Dec. 11, 1922, in Balltown, son of Edward and Avalona (Stillmunkes) Link. He married Dorothy Wilwert on Nov. 20, 1947, at St. Joseph's Church, Rickardsville. They celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary this past November.

Lavern served in the Army during World War II.

Together, Lavern and Dorothy farmed since 1953 in the Bernard area until his retirement in 1980. He also was an insurance agent and adjuster.

He enjoyed challenging projects, usually farm or mechanically related. His most recent project was growing roses.

Surviving are his wife Dorothy; two sons, David (Joyce) Link, of Springtown, Texas, and Kenneth (Debra) Link, of Bernard; two daughters, Leann Link, of Key West and Linda (Tom) Bergfeld, of Zwingle, Iowa; 11 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters, Armella Meyer, Noorman (Jo Ann) Link, Delbert (Lucille) Link and Luella (LaVern) Pape, all of Dubuque.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a son, Robert R. Link on Nov. 30, 2003
