Patricia Rowley McCarten

GROVETOWN, Ga. -- Mrs. Patricia Rowley McCarten, 85, of Grovetown, Georgia, entered into eternal rest on Saturday, Feb. 9, 2008, following a long illness.

A Memorial Mass will be at 3:30 p.m. today at St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Church, 4921 Columbia Road, Grovetown. Thomas Poteet and Son Funeral Directors, 214 Davis Rd., Augusta, Ga., are in charge of arrangements.

She was born in Marshalltown, Iowa, daughter of Dean and Marjorie Rowley. She attended the University of Texas at Austin and the University of Iowa in Iowa City, majoring in journalism.

She met and married Robert McCarten, who was in Naval Flight Training School at the time. The couple lived in many states until Mr. McCarten retired from the Coast Guard in 1971. They remained in Dubuque, for nearly 30 years, where she was a volunteer at Mercy Medical Center for more than 25 years. They moved to Grovetown in 2000.

Surviving are her husband; daughters, Mary (Michael) Lusson, of Raleigh, N.C., Terry (Robert) Sisk, of St. Augustine, Fla., and Augusta, Ga., and Maggie McCarten, of Augusta; two grandchildren; and two great-granddaughters.

She was preceded in death by her brother, Thomas Rowley; her son, Patrick McCarten; and her son-in-law Robert Sisk.
