James E.Metz

James E. "Jim" Metz, 65, 2720 Broadway died Thursday, Feb. 7, 2008, at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, Iowa City, from complications of a massive stroke.

Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Raphael's Cathedral. Friends may call from 3 to 6 p.m. today at the Egelhof, Siegert & Casper Westview Funeral Home, 2659 Kennedy Road.

He was born March 23, 1942 in Dubuque, the son of H.J. and Marie (Perleth) Metz.

Jim was born and raised in Dubuque. He attended Loras Academy and was a member of the first graduating class of Wahlert High School. He married Mary Mutch on July 11, 1964.

He served with the Army National Guard for six years and was employed at John Deere Dubuque Works for 30 years, retiring in 1994. He enjoyed his daily walks along the Mississippi River with his greyhound "Starbuck."

He is survived by his wife; Mary, of Dubuque; his children, Tim (Leah) Metz, of Van Nuys, Calif., Tamara (Jeff) Standorf, of Dubuque, and Eric (Christy Houselog) Metz, of Grinnell; several grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter; two brothers, Tom (Kay) Metz, of Dubuque, and Bill Metz, of Tampa, Fla.

He was preceded in death by his parents
