EPWORTH, Iowa -- Henry J. "Bud" Marxen, 85, of 301 W. Main St., Epworth, died at 4:18 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 5, 2008, at The Finley Hospital, Dubuque, after a brief illness.

Services will be at 1 p.m., Saturday at the Reiff Funeral Home, Epworth. Burial will be in Dubuque Memorial Gardens, Key West, with military honors accorded by the Epworth American Legion Post 650. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Reiff Funeral Home, Epworth, and after 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Henry was born Oct. 14, 1922, in Lewis, Iowa, son of Theodore and Hazel (Jahnke) Marxen. He received his education in the Lewis area public schools.

On Feb. 1, 1943, he married Dolly M. Baylor at Maryville, Miss. They just celebrated their 65th anniversary.

He was employed at Key City Bank and Trust, Epworth, until his retirement in 1984.

He served on the Epworth City Council for 14 years.

He is a World War II Army veteran, serving from 1943-1946 with the 86th Blackhawk Combat Infantry.

He enjoyed pitching horseshoes, playing euchre and having morning coffee with his friends. He was a loving husband and father who enjoyed spending time with his family.

Surviving are his wife, Dolly; three children, Wayne (Joan) Marxen, Dave (Donna) Marxen and Linda (Dave) Koerperich, all of Epworth; 8 grandchildren, Adam (Kristy) Marxen, Justin, Rachel and Zack Marxen, Jessica (Marcus) Wunderlich, Valerie Marxen, Sarah (Tim) Richardson, and Chris Koerperich; a great-granddaughter, Elsa Marxen; and a sister, Maxine Butler, of Atlantic, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and a son, Larry Marxen in 1951.
