Ronald T. Miller

Ronald T. "Ronnie" Miller, 61, of 2817 Elm St., died peacefully at 10:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 25, 2008, at home.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 15th and White Streets, where friends may call after 9 a.m. Tuesday. Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery following cremation. The Behr Funeral Home, 1491 Main St., is in charge of arrangements.

He was born on April 19, 1946, in Dubuque, son of Taft W. and Mary G. (McCarthy) Miller. Ronnie was a 1964 graduate of Wahlert High School.

He served in the Marine Corps during the Viet Nam War, serving in Viet Nam where he was awarded the Purple Heart for injuries sustained.

Ronnie's career in singing began when he was at Wahlert High School and involved in the musicals. He sang with several dance bands including, Jan Garber, Guy Lombardo, Dick Wickman and lastly with Hunter Fuerste. He had several bands of his own over the years including the Swinging Strings, Yesterdays Children (a 25 piece band) and Shaft. He started his career at the age of 16.

Ronnie had a "heart of gold" and cared for his mother in her last illness.

Surviving are a sister, Jean E. (Russ) Heer, of Dubuque; two brothers, Joseph W. (Debra) Miller and Dennis R. (Betty) Miller, both of Dubuque; several nieces and nephews; special friends, Patty Ostrander and Melita and Pat Schneider.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Patricia, in infancy.
