Dorothy L. Lukasik

Dorothy L. Lukasik, 86, of Luther Manor, formerly of 3079 Kaufmann Ave., died Friday, Jan. 25, 2008.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Resurrection Catholic Church. Burial will be in Dubuque Memorial Gardens, south of Dubuque. Friends may call from 3 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Behr Funeral Home, 1491 Main St., where there will be a parish wake service at 3 p.m.

She was born on Feb. 10, 1921, in Toledo, Ohio, daughter of Joseph and Magdalena (Hintz) Blazey. She married Stanley S. Lukasik Jr. on Aug. 2, 1941, at St. Hedwig Catholic Church in Toledo.

She worked for 12 years at Tarta Bus Co., formerly Community Traction Co., in Toledo, retiring in 1983.

Dorothy and Stanley moved to Dubuque in 1986. She was a loving wife taking care of Stanley, an Alzheimer's patient, at home for many years.

Dorothy had a high energy level. She loved gardening, especially raising flowers, and was a member of Dubuque Arboretum and Tri-State Garden Club. Dorothy was also a member and volunteer at American Legion Auxiliary Post 6 and Veterans of Foreign War Post 9663 Auxiliary. She was a member of Resurrection Parish and was a willing volunteer.

Dorothy enjoyed cooking Polish food, dancing the polka, and belonged to a square-dance club. Surviving are her husband, Stanley S. Lukasik Jr., of Dubuque; three sons, Stephen (Linda) Lukasik, of Athens, Ohio, John (Sue) Lukasik, of Holy Cross, and Marvin Lukasik, of Champaign, Ill.; five grandchildren, Tanya (Shane) Reimer, Michael Lukasik, David (Tracy) Lukasik, Daniel (Heather) Lukasik and Carrie (Pete) Weldy; four great-grandchildren, Christopher and Corey Reimer, Ryan Lukasik and Hailie Lukasik; and a brother, Chester "Jim" (Dianna) Blazey, of Camden, Mich.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters and two brothers.

The Family would like to thank Pastor Greg and all of the Luther Manor Staff and Caregivers, Dr. Schreiber and his staff, Fr. Vu and Sr. Francine of Resurrection Parish for their loving care and support.
