OELWEIN, Iowa -- Winnifred R. Farley, 99, of Oelwein, formerly of Dubuque, died Saturday morning, Jan. 26, 2008, at Mercy Hospital of Franciscan Sisters, Oelwein, after a lengthy illness.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Immanuel Congregational United Church of Christ, Dubuque, with the Rev. Ed Sheppley officiating. Burial will be in Dubuque Memorial Gardens, south of Dubuque. Friends may call after 10 a.m. Wednesday at the church.

She was born on Nov. 8, 1908, in Dubuque, daughter of John and Catherine (Butikofer) Baumgartner. She married Arthur John Farley on Sept. 6, 1928, in Dubuque; he preceded her in death on Oct. 22, 1998.

Winnifred was a seamstress at J.C. Penney in Dubuque for many years. Upon leaving J.C. Penney, she was a full-time homemaker.

She was a member of the Immanuel Congregational United Church of Christ in Dubuque.

Winnifred enjoyed playing cards, sewing, crocheting and church work. She has lived in Oelwein since 1998.

Surviving are two daughters, Norma Schmitt, of Oelwein, and Janice Becker, of Scottsdale, Ariz.; a son, James (Mary) Farley, of Arvada, Colo.; nine grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

She also was preceded in death by her parents; two sons, Richard Farley and Johnny Farley; six sisters; and two brothers
