Joseph F. Menster

CASCADE, Iowa -- Joseph F. "Toad" Menster, 94, of 26008 Garryowen Road, Cascade, died at 7 p.m. Monday, Jan. 7, 2008, at The Finley Hospital, Dubuque.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Martin's Catholic Church, Cascade, with the Rev. Douglas Loecke officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Cascade. Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. today at Reiff Funeral Home, Cascade, where there will be a wake service at 4 p.m.

He was born on Feb. 10, 1913, on the family farm in rural Cascade, son of Joseph and Frances (Klein) Menster. He received his education in the former St. Martin's School in Cascade.

He married Leona A. Breitbach on Nov. 24, 1938, at St. Martin's Church in Cascade. The couple farmed in the rural Cascade area all their lives.

He was a member of St. Matthias Parish in Cascade.

Surviving are his wife, Leona Menster, of Cascade; five sons, Dick (Barbara) Menster and Edward "Smiley" (Patti) Menster, both of Cascade, Jim (Jean) Menster, of Springville, Tom Menster, of Cascade, and Bob (Sue) Menster, of Monticello; four daughters, Connie Schaecher, Patty (Jim) Leick, Mary Kay (Herb) Dolphin and Debbie (John) Howard, all of Cascade; 30 grandchildren; 54 great-grandchildren; and six great-great grandchildren; three sisters, Mary (Tom) Ivey, of Key Largo, Fla., Betty (Louis) Heim of Kent, Wash., Barbara (Richard) Clarke, of Frisco, Texas; and a brother, Donald (Georgette) Menster, of Davenport.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his stepmother, Evelyn D. Menster; five brothers, Francis "Berky" Menster, Earl Menster and Rev. William Menster, Eddie Menster and David "Chick" Menster; three sisters, Helen Donovan, Sr. Evelyn "Rosemarie" Menster and Rita Reding; and a granddaughter, Gwen Schaecher.

The family of Joe would like to thank Tri-State Dialysis, a very special thanks to their staff, also to the Finley Hospital, Dr. Whalen, Dr. Ringold and Dr. Martin.
