Louise K. Behnke

Louise K. Behnke, 85, of Stonehill Care Center, formerly of 2435 Roosevelt St., died at 3:57 a.m. Monday, Jan. 7, 2008, at the care center.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Holy Trinity Catholic Church. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. today at Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory, 2595 Rockdale Road, where there will be a wake service at 7 p.m.

She was born on Jan. 23, 1922, in North Buena Vista, Iowa, daughter of Joseph and Celia (Wolter) Schmidt. She married Arthur Behnke on May 2, 1944, at Holy Ghost Church in Dubuque.

Louise was a great homemaker. She loved to play bingo and euchre, make quilts, and do crafts.

Surviving are her four children, Barbara (Ron) Winter, Irv (Kathy) Behnke and Merlin "Pete" (Linda) Behnke, all of Dubuque, and Linda (Robert) Stoll, of Cascade; 10 grandchildren, Brian, Chad, Mellissa, Eric, Kelly, Aaron, Karen, Matt, Daniel and Katie; four great-grandchildren, Maddie, Michael, Kelsey and Avery; three brothers, Arnold Schmidt, of North Buena Vista, Henry (Doris) Schmidt, of Arizona, and Alois (Phyllis) Schmidt, of California; two sisters, Helen (Floyd) Tschiggfrie and Cecelia Hirsch, both of Dubuque.

Thank you to Dr. David Ringold, and the nurses and staff at Stonehill Care Center for all the care they gave to Louise.
