Marcella A. Becker
Marcella A. Becker, 96, of 3730 Pennsylvania Ave., formerly of 1483 Allison Place, died Monday, Jan. 7, 2008, at Mercy Medical Center-Dubuque.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Nativity Catholic Church. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Siegert-Casper Colonial Funeral Home, 390 N. Grandview Ave, where there will be a Nativity parish scripture wake service at 7:30 p.m.
She was born on May 11, 1911, in Dubuque, daughter of Albert and Kathryn (Brophy) Anderson. She married Carl F. Becker on Aug. 16, 1941, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Dubuque; he preceded her in death on Feb. 4, 1971.
Marcella graduated from St. Joseph's Academy in 1929, and she attended Bayless Business College.
She was a stenographer for the Telegraph Herald for a number of years and then worked at JC Penney in the piece-goods department and later at Sibbings Jewelry, both in downtown Dubuque.
Marcella was a longtime member of Nativity Parish and a member of its Rosary Society.
Surviving are two daughters, Margy Becker, of Dubuque, and Mary (Bill) Otting, of Fulton, Mo.; four grandchildren, Jennifer Otting, of Istanbul, Turkey, Barbara (Jason) Ramsey, of Columbia, Mo., John Otting, of St. Louis, Mo., and Elizabeth Otting, of Fulton, Mo.; a great-granddaughter, Olivia Ramsey, of Columbia, Mo.; her brother, Dr. Edward Anderson, of Sun City West, Ariz.; and her sister-in-law, June Anderson, of Dubuque.
She also was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Alan Anderson; and her sister, Doris Anderson.
The Becker family wishes to thank the staff at Sunset Park Place, Dr. Dolan and his staff and the nurses at Mercy Medical Center Third Floor North, for their care and support.
