Lorraine Hein was born on Jan. 11, 1920, in Monticello, Iowa, daughter of Fred and Ione (Britting) Hein. She married Irwin J. "Irv" Behr on Sept. 21, 1944, at Nativity Catholic Church, Dubuque; he preceded her in death on Feb. 18, 2005.

She was a graduate of the Mercy Hospital School of Nursing in Dubuque.

During her career as a nurse, she worked at Mercy Hospital, as a private duty nurse and for various doctors' offices until her retirement.

Lorraine was a member of St. Joseph the Worker Parish. She was an avid card player and a member of the Swing Club and the Tuesday Club. She enjoyed reading and watching basketball and football games and never turned down a chance to go shopping.

Lorraine's greatest joy, though, was to be with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Surviving are three children, Steven R. Behr, Mary Jo (Dick) Weitz and Richard J. (Paula) Behr, all of Dubuque; a son-in-law, Bob (Mary) Park, of Dubuque; 11 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; a sister, Virginia "Ginny" (Ret. Col. USAF Jerry) Berkowitz, of Westford, Mass.; a brother-in-law, Bernard Zimmer, of Amarillo, Texas; nieces and nephews; and two sisters-in-law, Florence (Al) Puls, of Dubuque, and Nancy Ann Behr, of Pewaukee, Wis.

She also was preceded in death by a daughter, Pamela A. Park; a daughter-in-law, Dianne M. Behr; and two sisters, Georgia (Charles) Leuchter and Ruth Zimmer.

The family wishes to thank the nurses and staff of Hospice of Dubuque and Luther Manor for their care and concern for Lorraine.
