MANCHESTER, Iowa -- Eleanor Catherine Quint, 83, of Manchester, passed away suddenly on Tuesday, Jan. 1, 2008, at home.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Manchester, with the Rev. John Flaherty and the Rev. Neil Manternach officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery, Manchester. Friends may call from 1 to 8 p.m. today at Leonard-Muller Funeral Home & Crematory, Manchester, where there will be a scripture service at 3 p.m. Friends also may call after 9:30 a.m. Friday at the church.

She was born on Oct. 29, 1924, near Monticello, daughter of Joe and Amelia (Kelchen) Manternach.

She attended rural school and St. Mary's Catholic School in Cascade. She also worked as a hired girl until she was married.

She married Clarence Quint on Nov. 18, 1947, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Cascade. They recently celebrated 60 years of marriage. Five daughters were born to this union. Together they farmed near Ryan, Prairieburg and, in 1958, moved to a farm near Dundee. In 1985, they moved to Manchester, where Eleanor pursued her passion as a seamstress from her home.

She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church. She enjoyed her family and loved to have them visit.

Surviving are her husband, Clarence Quint, of Manchester; five daughters, Joann (Dick) Hartman, of Manchester, Donna (George) Puffett, of Strawberry Point, Janet (Ken) Burns, of Manchester, Doris (Jim) Koopmann, of Dyersville, and Julie (Jim) Kennedy, of Ogden; 17 grandchildren, Karen Hartman, Dave (Cheryl) Hartman, Kathy (Scot) Ruby, Toby (Amy) Hartman, Mary (Tony) Zieser, Herb (Kim) Hartman, Nick and Jay Puffett, Cindy (Dan) Funke, Sherri (Andy) Olsen, Scott Burns, Susan and Ryan Koopmann, Megan, Nathan and Lauren Kennedy and Brieanna Barber; 15 great-grandchildren; seven sisters, Florence Schockemoehl and Veronica Welter, both of Cascade, Alvina (Bob) Greif, of Monticello, Katie (Harry) Rockzein, of Wyoming, and Joan (Tom) Hoffman, Muriel (Duane) Schlemme and Lois (Alan) Gravel, all of Cascade; six brothers, Larry (Lois) Manternach, Ralph (Rita) Manternach and Joe (Joann) Manternach, all of Cascade, Loras (Donna) Manternach, of Masonville, and Ron (Bridget) Manternach and Lester (Mary Ellen) Manternach, both of Cascade; a stepsister, Jeanette Callahan, of Dubuque; two stepbrothers, Don (Mary) Manders and Dorrance (Pat) Manders, both of Dubuque; a brother-in-law, Elmer Klocke, of Cascade; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her stepmother, Millie Manders-Manternach; two sisters, Sr. Irmina Manternach and Mae Klocke; and two brothers-in-law, Harry Schockemoehl and Herman Welter.
