Beloved Woman Called By Death

Mrs. Elizabeth Nicks passed away Thursday morning at 3 o’clock at the family residence, 2101 Jackson street, after an illness of but a week’s duration of pneumonia. She was the widow of the late Nicholas Nicks, who died twenty-two years ago.

She was born in Harlingen, Wurtzenburg, Europe, in 1846, and came to America, coming directly to Dubuque, where she has since made her home. She is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Sam Hall of Chicago, Mrs. Frank Palen of Caledonia, Minn., and Elizabeth at home; six sons, Joseph, Nicholas, Edward and Paul at home, Peter of Pittsburgh and Benjamin of Chicago.

Mrs. Nicks was a faithful member of the Sacred Heart church and a most earnest worker in the ranks of the Rosary society and the Sacred Heart league of that parish. She was a most kind and loving mother and friend and her death brings deep sorrow to all who knew her.

The funeral will be held Saturday morning from the family residence to the Sacred Heart church at 9 o’clock. The Internment will be at Mt. Calvary.

Mrs. Elizabeth Nicks died at the family residence, 2101 Jackson street Thursday morning at 3 o’clock, after one week’s illness with pneumonia.

Mrs. Nicks was the widow of the late Nicholas Nicks who passed away twenty-two years ago, and was born in Harlingen, Luxemburg, Europe, February 15, 1846. She came to this country fifty years ago making her home in this city.

She was a devout and faithful member of the Catholic church attending the Sacred Heart church. She passed away comforted by its last rites. She was a kind loving mother and her loss is a severe blow to her bereaved family. She was a member of the Rosary society and the Sacred Heart parish and of the Sacred Heart league.

Three daughters, Mrs. Samuel Hall, of Chicago; Mrs. Frank Palen, of Caledonia, Minn., and Miss Elizabeth at home, and six sons Joseph, Nicholas, Edward and Paul of this city, Benjamin, of Chicago and Peter of Pittsburgh, Penn., survive.

The funeral will be held Saturday morning at 9 o’clock, from the family residence, 2101 Jackson street to Sacred Heart church. Internment will take place in Mt. Calvry cemetery.
