Nicholas Nicks, an Old Resident Passes Away

and Others Have Also Joined the Silent Throng

Another old resident of this city was freed from the world’s trials yesterday and joined the silent multitude beyond. Nicholas Nicks, the well known stonemason, died at 3:30 o’clock yesterday morning at his house __?_ Jackson street. He was sick but a few days and death resulted from congestion of the lungs. He was born in Germany nearly sixty three years ago but had been a resident of this city for forty three years. He has been one of the most prominent contractors of the city and by his honorable and upright life had merited the esteem of a large circle of friends. He was an uncle of _?__ship? A?___ Nicks and is survived by his wife and _?____ children of whom Joseph, Nicholas Jr. and Peter are firemen on the Great Western. His funeral will be held tomorrow with internment in the German Catholic Cemetery.

FUNERAL OF NICHOLAS NICKS

The funeral of Nicholas Nicks was held this morning at 9:00 o’clock from the family residence, 2085 Jackson street, to St. Mary’s church. Mr. Nicks was an old and highly esteemed citizen who for 35 years, with his brother Peter, followed his occupation of stone mason and contractor. He died Monday morning at 4 o’clock at the age of 62 years and 9 months, after a sickness of but a few days of congestion of the lungs. He was born at Harlingen, Luxembourg, in 1834, and came to Dubuque forty three years ago. He is survived by his brother, Peter, and sisters, Mrs. Leonard Funk, of Paris, France, and Mrs. Joseph Palen, of Caledonia, Minn., and by his wife and ten children John, Westfield, Mass., a bricklayer; Joseph, Nicholas and Peter, firemen on the Chicago Great Western; Mrs. Samuel Hall, Misses Florence and Lizzie and Edward, Paul and Bennie. Deceased was a member of the Pius, Alphonsus and Luxemburger societies.
