Train kills Dubuquer

A Dubuque woman was found decapitated on railroad tracks this morning about 50 feet from her home.

Police said Mrs. William (Mildred) Lightfoot, Jr., 48, of 1404 Pine St. probably was killed instantly when run over by a southbound freight train at 4:45 a.m. today. Her body was found at 6:50 a.m. by Joseph Jellison of 508 E. 16th St. as he walked to work. He told police he was trying to find a telephone to call them when he noticed another train going north and tried to flag it down. But it, too, hit the body.

The body was lying across the Milwaukee Road tracks 47 feet north of 14th Street. It was clothed in a nightgown, robe and bedroom slippers.
Police have not yet classified the death.

Services for Mrs. William L. (Mildred) Lightfoot, Jr., 48, of 1404 Pine will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the Westminster Presbyterian Church. Friends may call after 7 p.m. Saturday at the Haudenshield-Dewachter Funeral home. Burial will be in Linwood Cemetery.

Mrs. Lightfoot died Friday morning when she was struck by a train.

Mrs. Lightfoot was born in Cassville, Wis. She was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church.

Mrs. William L. (Mildred) Lightfoot, Jr., 48, of 1404 Pine St. was found dead at 7 a.m. in front of her home after being hit by a train.

Services are pending at the Haudenshield-DeWachter Funeral Home, 2170 Central Ave., where friends may call after 7 p.m. Saturday. Burial will be in Linwood Cemetery.

Mrs. Lightfoot was born in Cassville, Wis., and was a member of the Westminster Presbyterian Church.

Surviving besides her husband are six daughters, Mrs. Charles (Patricia) Block, Mrs. Jerry (Carol) Kelly, Mrs. David (Pearl) Duve, Mrs. Robert (Michele) Heiar, Mrs. Terry (Barbara) Kelly and Mrs. Glen (Myrna) Howell, all of Dubuque; two sons, Dale L. and Michael L., both of Dubuque; 21 grandchildren; her mother, Mrs. Pearl Thompson, and a sister, Mrs. William (Gloria) Urban, both of East Dubuque; six brothers, Milton, Roy L., and Wayne L. Laufenberg, and Gary Trierweiler, all of Dubuque, John Trierweiler of Van Nuys, Calif., and Dennis Trierweiler of East Dubuque, and her grandmother, Mrs. Mamie Pierce of Dubuque.

Note: date of death was February 23, 1973.
