Services for Mrs. James J. (Mary J.) Kelly, Sr., 70, of the Dubuque Health Care Center, formerly of 280 W. 17th St., will be at 8 p.m. Thursday at Behr Funeral Home, 1491 Main St. Friends may call from 5 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Kelly worked at the former Dubuque Packing Co. and later at the former Dubuque Battery Factory and former Demetri's Restaurant.

She was born on Dec. 23, 1924, in East Dubuque, Ill., daughter of Wesley and Bertha (DeBord) Atchison. She died at 5:25 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 12, 1995, at the care center.

She married James J. Kelly, on March 27, 1941.

She received the Governor's Award for her volunteer service and was a past member of the Eagle's Auxiliary. She was very active with the Dubuque Blind Society and volunteer at the food pantry. She enjoyed playing bingo.

Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Jeannie Frommelt and Mrs. Donald (Sherrian) Walton, both of Dubuque; three sons, James J. (Brenda) Kelly, Jr., Terry P. (Barbara) Kelly, and Timothy A. (Melody) Kelly, all of Dubuque; 16 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Erma Schoenberger, of Dubuque; and a brother, Ben (Marjorie) Atchison, of Dubuque.

She was preceded in death by her husband James J. Kelly, Sr., on Oct. 29, 1987.

A Mary J. Kelly Memorial Fund has been established.
