Peter Richard Schmitt

Peter R. Schmitt, 69, 1425 Cedar St., died at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Xavier Hospital after a short illness.

Friends may call after 1 p.m. Saturday at the Haudenshield Funeral home, 1258 Main St., from where services will be held at 9 a.m. Monday to St. Mary's Church. Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery.

Mr. Schmitt was born Feb. 7, 1886 in Holy Cross. He came to Dubuque as a young man and was employed for 34 years with the Milwaukee Road as a pump repair man on the D & I Second District. He retired Dec. 1, 1949. He was a member of St. Mary's Church and of the Retired Railroad Workers.

Surviving are his wife, Mae Lightfoot Schmitt; one son, S. Sgt. William R. Schmitt, Forbes Air Base, Kas.; three daughters, Mrs. J. M. (Rose) Solomon, Rock Island, Ill., Mrs. Leonard (Viola) Fuller, Jr., and Mrs. Karl (Ellen) Schmitt, Dubuque; one brother, Mathew Schmitt, Great Falls, Mont., and five sisters, Mrs. Nicholas Weber, Guttenberg, Ia., Mrs. Frank Fah, Dubuque, Mrs. Anna Weber, Ipswitch, S. D., Mrs. Angeline Henkels, Loma, Mont., and Mrs. Joseph Geiger, Hanover, Ill.

Submitter's note: Peter Richard Schmitt died June 2, 1955, of lung cancer.
Peter's parents were Nicholas and Lena (Endus) Schmitt.
