RITES ARE SET FOR DUBUQUE GI

BODY OF SGT. VIRGIL HOOKS ARRIVES WEDNESDAY

The body of Sgt. Virgil L. Hooks, of 2590 Roosevelt street, who was killed in action Jan. 24, 1944, while serving with the U. S. Army, will arrive Wednesday in Dubuque.

Military services under the auspices of Post No. 6, American Legion, will be held Wednesday at the Haudenshield Funeral Home, 2170 Central Avenue. Burial will be in Mt. Calvary cemetery.

Sgt. Hooks entered the service from Dubuque on April 18, 1941, and got his training at Camp Claibourne. In October of the same year he spent a short furlough with relatives here and the following February was sent overseas to Ireland.

A year later he took part in the North Africa campaign. As a member of Co. I, 133rd Infantry of the 34th Division, he also participated in the invasion of Sicily and Italy.

He is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. M. Specht, of Dubuque; four sisters, Mrs. B. B. (Evelyn) Peck, of Cairo, Ill.; Mrs. Anna Roche, of Wrentham, Mass., and Mrs. Lucille Olinger and Miss Alice Specht, of Dubuque; and three brothers, Delbert G. Hooks, John Specht, Jr., and Clemens Specht, all of Dubuque.

He was preceded by his father, George E. Hooks, in 1928.
