GUTTENBERG, Iowa - Maurice G. Pierce, 88, of Guttenberg, died Monday, Nov. 20, 2006, at home, following a brief illness. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. today at the Guttenberg Municipal Center. The Cremation Society of Eastern Iowa is in charge of arrangements.
He was born on March 7, 1918, in Colesburg. He married June B. Davis on April 15, 1939, in Dubuque.
Mr. Pierce was owner and operator of Pierce Lumber Company in Guttenberg, a mill that he started in 1942. He also was on the Guttenberg City Council for 11 years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and playing bridge.
Surviving are his wife, June; three daughters, Glee Palmer-Davis, of Hansville, Wash., Janet (Dick) Broeg, of Branson, Mo., and Maureen (Ron) Valentine, of Plano; seven sons, Jeffrey (Vickie) Pierce, of Belle Plaine, Christopher (Kathy) Pierce, of North Liberty, Mick (Carolyn) Pierce, of Guttenberg, James (Julie) Pierce, of Belle Plaine, Joseph (Pat) Pierce, of Nixa, Mo., Paul (Maria) Pierce, of Corona, Calif., and Terrance (Adriana) Pierce, of Cedar Rapids; 37 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren.
