John "Unk" Noel

John "Unk" Noel, of 16008 N. 106th Way, Scottsdale, Ariz., formerly of Dubuque, passed away on Thursday, Oct. 5, 2006, at home. Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Scottsdale.

Mr. Noel worked for the FAA, where he retired after 30 years of distinguished service.

He was born on May 1, 1931, in Dubuque, son of Marcellen and Marguerite (O'Hea) Noel

He attended St. Columbkille's School. He served in the Navy.

He married Cheryl Shannon, of Dubuque, in 1955, at Nativity Catholic Church, Dubuque. They moved to California in 1955, and to Scottsdale in 1974.

John loved to play golf. He also enjoyed going to watch his grandsons, Matthew and Christopher's, ballgames. He looked forward to seeing his friends and family come to Arizona for visits. He was devoted to his wife and family.

Surviving are his wife, Cheryl; a daughter, Kim (Ralph) Lawson; two sons, John (Janice) Noel and Mike (Cassie) Noel; nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; two brothers, Wayne (Darlene) Noel and Bill (Shirley) Noel, both of Dubuque; two sisters, Mary (Gary) Nilson, of Concord, Calif., and Jean (Jack) Dunwoody, of East Dubuque, Ill.; and a sister-in-law, Jaqueline Noel, of Dubuque.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Delbert and Jim; and a sister, Ann Marie.
