MARCELLA SAHM

Mrs. Marcella "Sally" Sahm, 90, of Dubuque Nursing and Rehab Center, 2935 Kaufmann Ave., formerly of 1985 Clarke Drive, and Rickardsville, Iowa, died at 11:25 a.m. Tuesday, April 10, 2001, at the center.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Rickardsville, with burial in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Dennis Kitchen Funeral Home, 3860 Asbury Road, where there will be a St. Joseph's Catholic Church Parish Christian wake service at 4 p.m.

She was born on May 4, 1910, in Asbury, Iowa, daughter of Bernard and Katherine (Potts) Schmitt. She married Gilbert Sahm on March 29, 1932, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Rickardsville. He died on April 13, 1956.

She farmed with her husband until his death and continued to farm until 1974, when she moved to Dubuque. She was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Rickardsville.

Surviving are a daughter, Dorothy (Lavern) Langel, of Luxemburg, Iowa, eight grandchildren, Daniel and Steven Langel, Sherry Hayes, Karen Domeyer, Diane Brown, Debra Vorwald and Mike and Terry Sahm; 16 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Marie Schmitt and Katherine Klein, both of Dubuque; and a brother, Carl (Madeline) Schmitt, of Dubuque.

She also was preceded in death by her parents; an infant daughter in 1934; a son, William "Bill" Sahm, on Sept. 2, 1999; a daughter-in-law, Doris Sahm, on July 7, 1996, three brothers, Paul, August and Bernard Schmitt; and a sister, Lucille Tarnutzer.

A Marcella "Sally" Sahm Memorial Fund has been established by her family.

The family wishes to thank the Dubuque Nursing and Rehab Center staff and the Hospice of Dubuque for the tender loving care given to Sally.
