Levi Kress, one of Dubuque's oldest pioneers, died Wednesday evening at 6:30 o'clock at his home, 2354 Lincoln avenue, after a lingering illness.
He was born in Sherrill, Iowa, Jan 22.1847, and lived in Dubuque county all his life. He was in the service of the Chicago, Milwaukee, St. Paul and Pacific railroad for 12 years and retired from active work in 1923. On Nov. 3, 1877, he was married to Margaret Engelhardt. He is survived by one daughter and three sons, Mrs. Mary Glese (Giese?), Dubuque; John and Henry, both of Potosi, Wis., and Leo, Dubuque; 14 grandchildren and six great grandchildren; two brothers, Phillip Kress, Dubuque, and George Kress, Center Grove.
The body is at the Haudenshield funeral home, where funeral services will be held Friday afternoon at 3:30 o'clock. Burial will be in St. John's cemetery.
