PIONEER CITIZEN PASSES AWAY

EDW. LEE, SR., DIED AT HOME OF HIS DAUGHTER FRIDAY MORNING

A NATIVE OF COUNTY CAVAN

Had Been a Resident of This City for the Past Fifty-Three Years

Mr. Edward Lee, Sr., died after a few days illness at the home of his daughter, Mrs. David Harker on Friday evening at seven-thirty o’clock. Mr. Lee was born in County Cavan Ireland, on June 20, 1836, and grew to manhood there. He emigrated to America when a young man, and, was united in marriage with Miss Mary Page at Syracuse, N. Y., in 1858. Fifty-three years ago he came to this city to reside, and Dubuque has since been his home. He was employed for a number of years as a sawyer in one of the planing mills, and was an industrious and capable man. He was a member of the Cathedral parish for over half a century, and was a man whose life was guided by his religious ideals. He was a kind and devoted father, and his death will be mourned by numerous friends. His wife died some years ago, and he is survived by five sons, James of Hudson, Wis., Frank of Minneapolis, Thomas, Edward, and Charles of this city, and four daughters, Mrs. Nellie Mills, Mrs. Ed Grue, Mrs. Dave Harker, Emma, another daughter Mrs.Van Wie having passed away a few months ago. The funeral will be held from his daughter’s residence to the Cathedral on Monday morning at nine o’clock, the interment to be made in Mt. Olivet.
