Mrs. Callahan buried Friday

Mrs Sadie*Callahan, 91, widow of the late Henry E. Callahan, of Epworth, Iowa and a retired Epworth postmistress, died Monday August 12th at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines, following a short illness. Mrs. Callahan has made her home with her daughter, Anna Louise Callahan in Des Moines for the past 17 years. * Julia Sarah

Friends of Mrs. Sadie Callahan and the Callahan family called at the Reiff Funeral Home in Epworth from where the services were held to St. Patrick's church in Epworth, Friday morning at 10:30. A concelebrated Mass was offered with Rev. Edward J. Lambert, pastor, as celebrant. Co-celebrants were Rev. John O'Connor and Rev. Louis Lusbagek. Burial was made in the family lot in St. John the Baptist cemetery at Centrallia, with the Rev. Edward J. Lambert and Rev. John O'Connor officiating.

Casketbearers for Sadie Callahan were Loras Callahan, Michael Callahan, Thomas Rini, Victor Rini, Tim Callahan and Jerome Grimes.
Sadie Callahan was born at Epworth on April 30, 1883 daughter of the late Timothy J. and Julia Grimes O'Connor. She received her education in the Epworth schools and was a graduate of the Epworth Seminary. She was married to Henry E. Callahan on April 30, 1908 at Epworth. Following their marriage the couple lived in Epworth. She was a member of St. Patrick's Altar and Rosary Society for many years. Mrs. Callahan served as postmistress of Epworth from 1934 to 1952 when she retired.

Surviving are one son, Connor Callahan, Epworth; two daughters, Mrs. Vincent (Eileen) Rini, Baltimore, Md., and Anna Louise Callahan, Des Moines; nine grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Henry E. Callahan, who died November 8, 1923; three sons, Loras J. Callahan, Clement F. and Dale H. Callahan; two sisters and one brother.

St. Patrick's parish rosary was recited Thursday evening at 8:30 at the Reiff Funeral Home in Epworth.
