CASUALTIES OF THE SEASON

The St. Paul Press says that there have been no very serious causalities on the upper river during the past season.

The steamer Itasca, of the N. W. U. P. Company, was sent to Paducah, Ky., after the close of navigation, last year, to be overhauled, and while there was burned to the water’s edge. She was valued at $15,000, no insurance.

The War Eagle was sunk during November at Willow Bar, in the St. Croix, but was raised within twenty-four hours without any serious damage.

The Ariel was sunk at Clinton some days ago. Value $8,000; total loss, no insurance.

The Cutter which belonged to the old La Crosse Packet Co., was sunk in October in the St. Croix. She was valued at about $5,000, and is a total loss, without insurance. The Packet Co. also sunk three barges during the season, all of which were raised.

There were a few other slight mishaps to some of the boats of the Packet Company, but none, we believe involving a loss of life except on the Victory. She exploded a steam pipe at Clinton not long since, by which one man was killed. The Northern Line has a barge sunk at Clinton, and another at Dubuque, both of which were raised. The riot on board the Dubuque was the most serious thing of the season, but the officers of the boat, so far as we have ever heard, were not subject to any blame.

Altogether the season has been quite free from serious causalities.
