William F. (Willie) & Genevieve (Larkin/Larken) Healy

William F. Healy was born in 1878 to John and Catherine (Haley) Healy on the family farm in Placid (Pleasant Grove), Iowa-south of Epworth. In 1910, William married Genevieve Larken (1889-1935). The Healy’s had four children: an infant, died in 1912; Marietta (Mrs. Hugh Doty) (1929-1959); Helen (Mrs. Clete Seymour of Bankston); and Wilfred (Willie) (1920-1976).

The Healy’s ran “Healy’s Hatchery” after moving to Iowa. Locating, in the beginning, on 1st Street; larger facility were soon need and Healy bought the building on the NE corner of 2nd Ave. and 3rd St. S.W. These previously had been owned by George Pitman, also Thackery and Ida Carpenter also resided in the house on the east end of the block which Mr. Healy also bought. Bill Healy was a charter member of the Dubuque County Mutual Insurance Co., serving as secretary/treasurer until he passed away in 1941.- following the death of his father, Wilfred (Willy) took over the insurance business and hatchery. Presently Willie and Genevieve McCormick Healy’s son-Tim-uses the office.
