William & Mathilda (Smith) Bell

William Bell, son of John and Mary (Miller) Bell was born on March 21, 1889, on a farm south of Dyersville. He attended the Bell School and the Brother’s School in Dyersville. On Nov. 20, 1912 he married Mathilda Smith, daughter of Nick and Margaret Smith at Worthington, Iowa. Mathilda was born June 3, 1891. Three children were born to this union: Virginia Hoefer, Robert and Donald.

Around 1921, they purchased a farm east of Farley from Charlie Connell. They retired in Farley.
William was active in the affairs of Farley, serving on the Farley School Board in the 1930’s and Township Trustee of Taylor Township around 1933. He was a member of the K of C’s and St. Joseph church.
