Peter & Fredericka (Fern) Streif

Peter was the son of Fridelin Streif of Canton of Glarus, Switzerland.

Peter left Switzerland during 1857. He worked around New York City until he could save enough money to send for Fredericka Fern whom he married in 1858. They worked their way on riverboats by food handling and cooking while moving their way to Dubuque County. Upon their arrival they were employed Dubuque County Home. Eventually they acquired a farm in Section 18 of Taylor Township. Peter was very active in public affairs but never held office. Samuel and Fredericka raised five children where they attended local school and were members of the Presbyterian Church.

Fredericka lived from 1834 to 1892. Peter was born in 1831, dying in San Francisco, California 1903. His body was returned to Farley for burial beside his wife at Fairview cemetery.

Their children were: Lena, 1859-1953; Samuel, 1864-1918; John, 1865-1934; James, 1871-1900; henry, 1874-1959.
