John Murphy, son of Michael and Catherine (Bell) Murphy was born in 1869 on a farm near Farley. He married Nellie Tracy on Oct. 10, 1892. Nellie was born in 1871.

Five children were born to this union: Vera Wood, Catherine who joined the Visitation Sisters on Sept. 3, 1917 and was professed on March 19, 1919. She received the name Mary Claude Agnes. She passed away April 11, 1976; George, who lived in St. Charles, Ill.; and Harold of Ryan, Iowa.

John Murphy died in 1929. They are buried in St. Joseph Cemetery.
