David Nathan Hogan was born in Taylor Township on October 20, 1856. David died Sept. 2, 1905. David was the son of Willis and Pamelita Hogan. In the spring of 1879 he grew very ill. For many months his life was hanging in the balance. David never fully recovered from that illness and remained and invalid for 25 years. David died of what was diagnosed as “heart trouble and dropsy” at the age of 49. Mr. Hogan had worked three years on his father’s farm. Later, her taught school for twelve years. David was elected township clerk; was town recorder; and was connected with the Dubuque County Farmer Mutual Insurance Association. He was buried near his parents at Fairview Cemetery.
