Historic Riverboat
The Delta Queen churns out of the lock in Dubuque in September 1965. The boat was fabricated in Scotland in 1926 and shipped to Stockton, Calif., for final assembly. During World War II, the U. S. Navy used the vessel for medical treatment and transportation of service personal in San Francisco Bay. In 1947, the Delta Queen was decommissioned and sold, and it traveled 5,000 miles from San Francisco, through the Panama Canal, to reach the Mississippi River. Its luxury cruises remains one of the most exclusive tourism activities in the country.
