The Julia Belle Swain

Last of the Line

The Julia Belle Swain, shown here in April 1971, was launched in November 1970. It was the last riverboat manufactured by Dubuque Boat and Boiler works. The firm was founded in 1904 the successor of Iowa Iron Works, which was established in 1851. When it closed in 1972, Dubuque Boat and Boiler works was the second-oldest U. S. boat manufacture.
