Peculiar Accident Which Befel a
12 Year Old Boy
~
HIS WIND PIPE TORN OPEN
~
The 12 year old son of Michael Smith, residing at Fourteenth and Maple Streets, met with a most peculiar accident last evening, the result of which may be fatal. While at play the boy fell, a small stick of wood which was in an upright position puncturing his throat and making a hole an inch across in the wind pipe.

The boy bled profusely and was almost unconscious when physicians arrived. They attempted to sew up the opening in the wind pipe by stretching the cartilage, but the sufferer sank so that they were obliged to desist and give him stimulants. It was then decided to insert a silver tube within the trachea. This latter operation was performed. The doctors said last night that the boy may die. The father is an employee of the Standard Lumber Company.
