IN POLICE COURT
~
FOUR WELL KNOWN CHARACTERS
ARRESTED FOR INTOXICATION
~
Police Magistrate Carney had an interesting array of well-known characters before him this morning. A quartet of real gems namely, Jim Brophy, Long John Sassman, Cal Breen and Mike Duggan were ushered into the court room and arraigned for intoxication. The individual members of the quartet have appeared in court so often on similar charges, that there being there did not appear out of order, but the fact that the four were brought in together was an unusual occurrence and when the court saw them coming he knew that he would be compelled to listen to enough woe to last him the remainder of his natural life, if he gave the men a chance to talk. Brophy got the floor first and was spieling off a long yarn, when the court knocked for silence and before Brophy had a chance to open up again the squire sentenced the quartet to the county jail for various terms. Sassman made the plea that he had a job out near Julien and agreed to leave the city within an hour providing sentence was suspended. The court agreed to the proposition and Long John lost no time in taking to the woods.
