The state of Iowa has been offered $5 per acre for Round Island, a pretty little green spot in the middle of the Mississippi River two miles below the city. The island is frequented by pearl fishers and contains good wood. A large amount of wood has been cut and stacked up on the island. But the state cannot sell the land without action of legislature. The attorney general was appealed to for an opinion on the matter and a hasty going over the statutes showed that the legislature alone can sell the island.
