“LITTLE CHRISTMAS” FESTIVITIES – The Christmas festivities of Father O’Reilly’s Catholic School, taught by Miss Connolly, at St. Philomena’s Church, in Center Township, were deferred on account of illness of Miss Jennie Scott, the musical instructor of the school, until Tuesday the anniversary of the Epiphany, familiarily termed “Little Christmas,” when they came off in gala style. There was a large attendance, with a sprinkling of gents and ladies from the city. The Christmas tree displayed beautifully in the light of the blazing tapers, and it held a rich load of presents which were distributed to the scholars, under the supervision of Miss Mary Murray and Miss Connolly. Miss Jennie Scott was kindly remembered for her many kind offices to the school giving vocal lessons in music to the little folks and training a choir, with a gift of a handsome ladies watch worth $50, of Heitzelman, jeweler in Dubuque, expressly for the occasion as a grateful token of appreciation by the scholars, and this accomplished young lady well deserved.
