HARVESTING ICE – The ice harvest has commenced. Cushing & Fisher has a force of men and teams working at cutting and hauling ice taken from the main channel of the river where the water is pure, of course the ice is. The drippings from Rhomberg's Distillery has destroyed the ice where it was formerly cut and operations have to be made some distance from the ice house. Blocks over a foot thick are hauled in wagons and stored for use. This method is expensive and will no doubt enhance the price next summer.
