The Dubuque Herald – Jan. 3, 1883
Yesterday forenoon Marketmaster Sam Rice, arrested a bull-beef peddler who was dealing out flesh contrary to the ordinance, i.e., selling it by the chunk not weighting it as required by the city code. Sam escorted the prisoner to the marshal, who discharged him. There is too much of this fraudulent business perpetrated upon the market and it, should be looked after, and all such contact sharply reprimanded by the proper authorities.
