Michael Jores, a farmer living near Graf station, was killed this morning at 9 o’clock by No. 6, the east bound passenger train on the Great Western.
Jores was driving over the crossing about a mile above Graf with a load of wood drawn by a team in which he was taking to Graf, where he intended to market it. The engineer gave notice of the approach of the train when he saw the wagon driving on the track but instead of going back Jores went ahead thinking he could get over before the train reached him. He evidently did not calculate rightly the speed of the train or else the load stuck as it was going over the elevation and the train coming at a high rate of speed struck the wagon sending the man and all over the embankment where he was picked up as soon as train could be brought to a standstill by members of the crew. His body was crushed by the load and from all appearances he was killed outright; the interior organs of the body were badly crushed.

The body was allowed to remain where it was while the train came through to Dubuque where the company official notified Coroner Hoar of what had happened. He went out at once to care for the remains and will hold an inquest.

Jores was a farmer living in the neighborhood of Graf and was well and favorably known.
