The Daughters of the American Revolution in Dubuque will regret to know that one of their oldest sisters is lying sick until death in Beloit, Wis. Mrs. Eliza J. O. Manahan has always been active member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and has not been unknown to the Dubuque Chapter.

She was born in Norway, N. J. and came to Chicago in 1843, making the trip by wagon and canal. In 1838 she was wedded to Thomas Manahan at Elizabethtown, N. J., who was a lineal descendant of Robert Bruce. She was left a widow in 1884 and since her husband’s death has resided with her son in Chicago.

E. M. Stanton, Lincoln’s famous war secretary, was a cousin of Mrs. Manahan.
