SCHRUP, Nicholas John
Banker, underwriter; born in Dubuque, Iowa, Aug. 23, 1863; son of John and Maria (Falen) Schrup; attended country and city schools; graduated from St Francis Normal School, Milwaukee, 1874; married, Chicago, Ill., Oct. 14, 1884, Mary A. Kransz; children: Charles J., Lillian M., Rosalyn M., Oliver G. Taught in country and graded school for five terms; was deputy county auditor three years, resigning that office in 1883 to become secretary and later general manager of Dubuque Fire and Marine
Insurance Co., in which position continues. President and principal stockholder German Savings Bank, director Dubuque Altar Manufacturing Co., and Bank and Insurance Office Building, also prominently Identified with other Dubupue institutions. Was a member of Board of Education ten years, and president two terms; elected State senator in 1910. Democrat; Catholic; Elk; Knight of Columbus. Recreations: Baseball, bowling, and aquatic sports.
